Greetings all,

In this week’s episode of Ventures, my guests Jim Reavis, Kurt Seifried, and I discuss the philosophies and principles behind the Web 1, Web 2, and Web 3 transitions from a cybersecurity perspective. We talk about the implications of Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI), user experiences in a Web 3 world, and an exciting new project that Kurt and Jim are working on in the blockchain and education space.

Check it out: Cybersecurity and user experience philosophies through Web 1.0, Web 2.0, and Web 3.0 :: with Jim Reavis and Kurt Seifried

Lessons for the Web 3.0 generation from the VISA story

At first read this might seem counterintuitive. Isn’t VISA what Web 3 is competing against?

In one sense, yes. I’m looking forward to a future payments system that is truly decentralized.

However, in another sense we - i.e. those trying to help usher in the Web 3 era - have a lot to learn from the founding story.

I wrote up a mini-review and reflections from a book I read recently, check out it: One From Many: Lessons for the Web 3.0 generation from Dee Hock's book on VISA and the rise of Chaordic Organization

Tangibly helping to usher in the Web 3.0 generation

I’m excited to help share the news: Figment Capital: A $16M Fund Dedicated to Growing Web 3

“We are thrilled to announce Figment Capital, the $16M investment arm of Figment Inc. This fund will be dedicated to fueling the growth of new decentralized protocols & applications with more than capital: we bring a wealth of experience, connections, and expertise in the Web 3 space that we want to invest in fledgeling projects.”

For those who may have missed it, episode #2 of the Ventures podcast was with two of the founders and my brother, Tony: Blockchains, the State of the Crypto Ecosystem, Proof-of-Stake, and Figment Networks :: with Lorien Gabel, Andrew Cronk, and Tony Little

It’s a great honor to have Figment as a Prota Ventures portfolio company. My partners and I have had a front-row seat to witness their growth, from an idea to one the largest blockchain infrastructure providers in the world.

Well done, Lorien, Andrew, Matt, and team!

Have a great rest of your week!
