Greetings all,

In this week’s episode of Ventures, my guests Bill Murphy, Sol Cates, and I discuss the worlds of private equity and investment banking, how founders should think about engaging strategic investors, the different stages of technology leadership as a company grows, and the services that Cresting Wave offers to help tech companies mature operations and execute go-to-market strategies.

Check it out:  Growing as a technology leader, engaging value-add investors, and optimizing go-to-market strategies :: with Bill Murphy and Sol Cates

COVID-19 Antibodies

Following up on my newsletter from a couple weeks ago, I wrote up a fuller article for Prota’s portfolio company, Zebra Health:

Thirteen members of our team were given COVID-19 rapid antibody tests. Here’s what we learned.

This N=13 test was actually quite interesting In our own little way. We underscored the reality that the vaccines are likely to provide significantly more protection than a natural infection.

Three bags for cryptocurrency trading

I’m not sure how many of you out there are actively trading coins right now - but today was a wild ride (dramatic swings up and down, even more than normal). I’ve written a lot about Web 3.0 and blockchains here, including a video I did on how I personally trade cryptocurrencies.

Long story short, I’m more aggressive than most of my colleagues when it comes to trading. While I have my “HODL” bag that I hope to not touch for decades (and just keep adding network tokens I appreciate), I also have a “manual trading” bag where I trade mainly off the 4hr candles and 15m candles for specific entry/exit points. In addition, I also wrote my own proprietary trading algo that has been making a few trades a week since 2018 in different markets.

In addition to diversifying what markets to invest in, I also like to diversify how I trade. In bull runs my HODL bag wins, in bear runs my manual trading wins, and in flat periods my algo wins.  Still, at any point I expect to lose basically all my crypto holdings in value since the markets are insane and dramatic swings are normal. Thus, I do my best to take some USD off the table in regular intervals (don’t tell my Bitcoin-maximalist friends!).

No matter how you look at it, the last few weeks have been fairly vindicating. For quite some time I (and many of my colleagues) have felt like the guy in this video trying to buy something with gold for the first time. We sound(ed) crazy. I get it.

But the truth is, folks, Bitcoin is truly amazing. Proof-of-Stake is also incredible. I’m excited about the real-world, positive impact that Web 3.0 is going to usher-in to empower human flourishing. One of my life goals is to help make that impact as positive as possible, and I remain optimistic.

Have a great rest of your week!
