Greetings all, in this week’s episode of Ventures, my guest Michelle Schubert and I discuss a “Web3 101” from her perspective as a relative newcomer to the space, and we talk about her work with International Literacy and Development (ILAD). We learn about her story leading into development work, how her team’s upcoming “Stop the Extinction” NFT campaign is aiming to preserve languages all around the world, advice for those writing about and teaching Web3, and reflections from her attendance of Consensus 2022 in Austin, TX last week.

Impact Ape

I attended the Web3 Impact Summit last week in Austin, TX before the Consensus 2022 conference. During the event, I spun up a new Twitter account to focus on Web3 and the Impact space → https://twitter.com/impact_ape

Be on the lookout for an important new NFT campaign this summer

Michelle’s team at ILAD is putting together a set of NFTs corresponding to the ~3k languages around the world that are on the brink of extinction. The money raised will be used - via a DAO - to fund the important work of preserving these languages and developing their communities.

In Web3, we talk often about “banking the unbanked” - which is well intentioned - but the truth is that many of the unbanked speak languages that aren’t yet on the Internet. What is needed is a “Step 1-2-3” to help these language communities develop a written language, become literate in their language, and then participate in AI translation services to be able to participate in the global economy.

I’ll be talking a lot more about the campaign this summer, so be sure to stay tuned here if you aren’t already subscribed. And yes, if you use Twitter, be sure to follow @impact_ape :)

Have a great rest of your week!
