GPT-4 smarter than SVB?

Greetings all,

In this week’s episode of Ventures, I (https://twitter.com/wclittle) walk through today’s GPT-4 announcement (https://openai.com/product/gpt-4) with a couple of important examples from Twitter (i.e. image-to-HTML/CSS and describing an image). I also introduce a 10-part series that I've written comparing React with Ruby on Rails’ Turbo.

Check it out: Product: GPT-4 released today (yes, it is scary smart). Code: React vs. Turbo

GPT-4

The announcement today blew everyone away. We now are MUCH closer to AI generating not just creative stories and (lies) about code and research, but now we’re seeing it identify humor in pictures and create webpages for us based on a sketch in a notebook.

As I mentioned in the podcast today, kudos to OpenAI for actually shipping a thing around the time they said they would ship it (after the ChatGPT delay, of course).

SVB

In my world, there has basically been nothing else talked about the last 5 days or so besides the Silicon Valley Bank collapse. I’ll refer you to the mainstream news articles about it if you aren’t familiar, but it was actually an extremely scary time for startups with more than $250k in an SVB bank account (or any other small and/or startup-friendly bank, for that matter).

We’ll see how long the government can keep printing money to save us. I’m generally a huge optimist but, well, simple math here doesn’t add up. We’re in for a reckoning.

Until then, have a great rest of your week!
