Greetings all,

In this week’s episode of Ventures, I (https://linkedin.com/in/wclittle) walk briefly through Marc Andreessen’s recent article “Why AI Will Save the World” (https://a16z.com/2023/06/06/ai-will-save-the-world/) and discuss why I tend to agree the time to build aggressively with AI is *now*, at the very least in order to compete on the global landscape for the common good. I also talk about the upcoming GenAI summit I’m hosting in Seattle on June 9th, and why the immediate future with AI is ripe for “co-pilots” across multiple markets and disciplines.

It is, indeed, time to build

I have listened - at length - to the arguments to stop AI research/building (it’s hard to miss ‘em). I have found them not nearly as compelling as Marc Adreeseen’s argument to press on the gas as fast as possible.

While I’ve heard mixed things about the ability for China to seriously compete with the rest of the world on this front, I think the argument still holds that for The West in general, and the USA in particular, we should be building/funding AI as fast as possible.

AI co-pilots are already assisting many people through ChatGPT and others.  

Plus, for those of us using LLMs regularly, there is still a LONG way to go for these to be as disruptive as all the doomsday people are saying they will be. The errors/hallucinations are rampant; I don’t think Google has much to worry about when it comes to “LLMs replacing search” or anything like that.

Still, we’ll see LLM-type behavior start enhancing search over time. Finding legit sources for information fed into LLMs will be key.
