✨ Real Stories of Human Flourishing

When Valerie Porter joined the Zebra Health Team in 2021, as part of the SHIELD Illinois state-wide initiative to help schools and communities, the Englewood native never expected that she would be doing more than administering weekly Covid-19 tests to one of the 130-plus schools in Chicago and its neighboring suburbs. She would also develop relationships and by sharing her own personal experiences, improve a student’s quality of life.

What is Prota Ventures? Hosts Jameeleh Shelo and Will Little tee up the purpose of The Prota Podcast, including an introduction to our initial 4-part series answering the question What is Prota Ventures? They discuss their personal stories and motivations for becoming Managing Directors, and explain in detail why Prota is different from a traditional VC group.

What does Human Flourishing mean at Prota? We continue our four-part series defining Prota Ventures by focusing on defining in more detail what we mean by Human Flourishing. We also dive into a summary of G.E.E.K. i.e. Generosity, Empathy, Excellence, and Kindness, which summarize our core values as an ecosystem.

What is the Prota Ecosystem? In this third episode of The Prota Podcast, we focus on our structure and ecosystem. We talk about how Prota Holdings relates to Prota Studios, Prota Labs, and Prota Ventures, and how our investment strategy works to be generous first, then invest our time, then invest our capital.

What is the vision at Prota? We complete our initial four-part intro series by detailing our vision, high-level strategy, and tactics. Borrowing from Jim Collins’ approach to vision in his book Beyond Entrepreneurship (and, more recently, BE 2.0), we talk about our core values/beliefs, purpose, and mission. We also boil down the strategy we’ve talked about in previous episodes and talk specifically about why you should (and how you can) contact us to get involved in the Prota ecosystem.

📆Prota Weekly Call Highlights

January 18, 2022 we were joined by Robin Newman from Studio Jayne. Studio Jayne is a design and innovation studio dedicated to social impact, and is launching Likely Story. A free, digital game to prevent human trafficking by empowering teens. In partnership with Victim Services of Durham Region, The game will be available to at-risk youth in Ontario and across Canada and will equip teens to take control of their relationships by shaping their critical thinking, addressing intentions, and understanding consent, all through game play. Ahead of the public launch, the game has been honored for Best Games: Public Service, Activism and Social Impact in the 25th Annual Webby Awards, hailed as the “Internet’s highest honor” by The New York Times. January 11, 2022 We were joined by Hubert Dagbo from Equipt (www.joinequipt.com). A recruitment platform that uses interactive online learning experiences to attract, upskill, assess its growing network of diverse talent and connect them to fulfilling career opportunities (Explainer Video). January 4, 2022 We kicked off the new year with Stephen Felix from Medial Health. A technology company that provides electronic health record Software as a Service (SaaS) to its customers. Our software allows medical providers to create and access medical records about the patient during a medical visit. Medial Health wishes to bring equity to healthcare by decentralizing the patient data journey, making health care information interoperable and personalized. Dr. Yasser Said is the Prota Contact.
